PUPILS and staff at Dyson Perrins CE Sports College in Malvern celebrated the school's successes at its prize-giving ceremony.

Prizes were presented to the school's leading students by the Venerable Roger Morris, Archdeacon of Worcester.

Head David Griffin said: "In today’s educational world, we spend a lot of time measuring progress and quantifying success, and demonstrating how our students match up to others across the country. This is important, because we are a school and we want the best possible academic success for our students.

"Education is always changing, it’s a dynamic environment and schools have to be prepared to change with the times. In a changing world, I think it’s good to have some constants. And one of those constants, is to take the time to say well done to those who have done well academically.

"This year’s results saw a 17 per cent rise in the number of students gaining five-plus A* to C grades. 84 per cent of students achieved this milestone, and the school owes its success, in part, to restructuring the curriculum three years ago, to introduce a wider variety of courses for students. This is indicative of a very successful year reflecting the energy, enthusiasm and hard work of students and staff. 50 per cent of students achieved five-plus A* to C grades including English and Maths, "We also want to congratulate those who are leaders, who build up our school community, who excel in sports, arts and have skills such as mentoring. Many of these skills and attributes don’t get mentioned in school league tables."
