A TOWN centre nightspot could have its opening hours slashed as a result of problems with crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

West Mercia Police has requested a licensing review of The Vaults Public House, in Worcester Road.

The review is now being carried out by Malvern Hills District Council, and will be decided at a licensing hearing likely to take place in January.

Notices advertising the review state that recent incidents have undermined the licensing objectives of preventing crime and disorder, public safety and preventing public nuisance.

Police licensing officer Peter Hughes said there were issues with crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour.

“Over a period of years, and particularly the last 12 months, police feel that incidents have warranted calling for a review of the licensing hours,” he said.

MHDC’s licensing officer Niall McMenamin said any interested parties have until Wednesday (December 22) to make submissions to the council.

The review will be a public hearing that anyone is welcome to attend.

Vaults landlord Karl Crangle declined to comment.

Meanwhile, police were called out on both Friday and Saturday evenings after disturbances outside the newly-opened Foley Arms Hotel.

Staff at the venue, which opened its doors the previous Tuesday, called police on Friday night after fighting broke out.

On Saturday night, police were again called to the premises, and several arrests were made.

Arrests were also made after fighting in the Malvern Link area, and police believe some of the same individuals from the town centre were involved.
