MALVERN residents could be looking at the coldest December since 1981, weather watcher Frank Hill warned this week.

Daytime temperatures on Monday and Tuesday (December 6 and 7) did not rise above -3C, the lowest daytime temperatures since January 1985. Temperatures at night fluctuated between -6C and -9C.

Mr Hill said he expected daytime temperatures today (Friday) and tomorrow to be higher, around 3C or 4C, which should melt the snow and frost lying on the ground.

But he said the outlook for the following days is high pressure and dry weather, remaining cold.

He said: "It's been the coldest start to winter since December 1981, and I think it will be something like that in the end."
