THE ever-popular Welland Steam Rally is held over three days at the end of the month on July 23, 24, and 25.

The rally was started in 1964 by a bunch of steam enthusiasts and has grown and developed over the years into the huge event it is today.

Now one of the most respected events of its type in the country the rally is held on its own 100 acre site in Welland.

The 46th Welland Steam and Country Rally promises a weekend of nostalgia with the sights, sounds, colours and movement of bygone days. Visitors can take a trip down memory lane to the days when steam power reigned supreme on the roads, on the farm and in the fairground.

Attractions include working exhibits along with parades and displays of steam, vintage and historical vehicles. Steam engines include showman’s engines, road locomotives, steam wagons, steam rollers and ploughing engines.

There will be displays of vintage tractors, stationery steam engines and steam powered farm machinery and one of the largest displays of vintage and classic motorcars and motorcycles. There will also be vintage trucks and buses and historical military vehicles.

Two working areas will demonstrate how steam was used for ploughing, threshing, wood cutting and stone crushing and other attractions include the rally’s traditional tractor pulling competition, a farmers market, craft market and trade stands.

The rally will also have its traditional old time fairground and firework display.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children and OAPs. Children under school age are free.
