THE new village green at Madresfield was officeally opened by Lady Morrison last Sunday, July 4.
The creation of a village green was first mooted following responses to a questionnaire the parish council distributed to residents in May 2005.
Several residents mentioned the lack of a green and others mentioned the neglected state of the local village pond that was overgrown and hidden behind fencing.
By incorporating an unused corner of a field, these two issues could be addressed at the same time and a village green could be created where residents could relax and enjoy a rejuvenated pond. Funding of £8,000 was finally granted from the National Lottery Breathing Spaces scheme in 2008 and work commenced in January 2009. Two benches and a picnic table were installed entil earlier this year.
