THE ornate wooden bridge in Priory Park will be out of action for about 10 weeks as replacement work takes place.
Malvern Hills District Council has ordered the bridge to be re-built following consultations with conservation officers who ruled that the structure was beyond economical repair.
Work is set to get underway on Monday (April 12) and will involve removing the timber superstructure - which dates back to the 1920s - and rebuilding it using oak to match the existing ornate construction.
Coun Ralph Madden, responsible for finance at MHDC, said: “We will be rebuilding the bridge with great care to ensure the original character is preserved.”
The replacement structure will be built on-site and alternative routes will be signposted.
