THREE local businessmen have got together with a Malvern Link-based art gallery and Malvern Hills District Council to back a new open art competition.

Derek Francis of Francis Furniture, Andrew Downie of Tromans Opticians and Terry Clifford of Worcester Print and Design are sponsoring the competition.

The competition, open to over 16’s from the three counties, provides an opportunity for established and emerging artist to enter their work and compete on a level playing field. The first prize is £100 and the opportunity to have a solo exhibition at the Tiger Arts Gallery at no cost to the artist.

“The gallery exists to promote visual arts in the three counties and especially the work of new and emerging artists, what better way to bring together work from a wide range of artists than an open competition,” said Nick Trotman of Tiger Arts Gallery.

“We feel it is very important to show people the wealth of talent that exists locally and provide artists with new opportunities to exhibit.”

The closing date for entries is the May 14, and the successful entrant's work will be displayed at the gallery in June. For more information, visit tigerarts.co.uk or call 01684 565635.
