THE spectacular King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will be making a return to Three Counties Show after an absence of more than a decade.

The famous Musical Ride, performed by attired gunners astride Irish Draught horses, looks set to thrill the ringside crowds with a display of choreographed gun manoeuvres, on all three days of the show.

A criss-crossing gallop, known as ‘the scissors’ is one of the main highlights, as the entire troop, carrying six World War One guns, criss-cross at speed.

The King’s Troop last performed in Malvern in 1998 and show organisers, the Three Counties Agricultural Society, says it is confident the twice-daily extravaganza will draw thousands of visitors to the Main Arena.

Chief executive of the society, Nick Vincent, said: “The Three Counties Show has always been renowned for its exciting entertainment, be it parachutes, aeroplanes or stunt rides, but there’s nothing quite like the King’s Troop, to inspire a sense of patriotism and keep you on the edge of your seat at the same time.”

The Musical Drive was first performed in 1897 and involves 68 horses. All the riders - male and female - are trained gunners and fighting soldiers and some are currently deployed on operations in Afghanistan.

The Three Counties Show takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 18, 19 and 20 at the Malvern Showground. For tickets call 01684 584924 or log onto threecounties.co.uk
