TORY Euro-MP Philip Bushill-Matthews visited Malvern College to lead a seminar on the European Union for studnets doing A-level Politics.

The school's head of economics and politics, Stephen Holroyd, said: "Philip engaged the group from the outset with a series of questions relating to the EU which provoked many interesting and even some correct answers. He then wove these skilfully into his talk and question-and-answer session.

"He explained very clearly the different functions of the main European institutions and spoke with some feeling about why being part of the EU was very much in the UK’s interest, pointing out that all three major UK parties were in favour of membership and would not take such a position if it meant weakening the country or indeed their own power as politicians.”

Mr Bushill-Matthews said: “As always, it was a very bracing occasion exchanging views with students. Their questions were always sensible and always challenging, and I hope that some of them will consider pursuing their political studies on the continent in due course. I was also delighted that two of the teachers were actively involved in the discussions at the end.”
