Malvern Town had to settle for a point after Yate Town's stunning equaliser with the final kick of the game saw the clash finish at a 1-1 stalemate.

The match, on Tuesday, October 22, at the HD Anywhere Stadium, saw Alex Bell put Malvern ahead before Lucas Tomlinson heroically netted the leveller five minutes into injury time.

The game began with both teams tentatively feeling each other out, resulting in a quiet opening half hour.

Yate had more early success with a couple of half-chances, but it was the Hillsiders who broke the deadlock in the 29th minute.

Bell, who had been lively throughout the first half, found himself in space on the edge of the box and curled a shot in off the right-hand post for the lead.

Yate responded with further pressure, but their attempts to equalise were thwarted by a solid Malvern defence.

Ross Stearn had their best chance but headed over the bar, with Malvern's goalkeeper, Alex Kovacevic, remaining largely untroubled as the first half drew to a close.

Yate were pushing for an equaliser following the interval, but Malvern held firm.

Despite their possession, the visitors struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.

Malvern also had chances to extend their lead, with Sam Clark and Lewis Spurrier both testing Aaron Sainsbury in the Yate goal, but they were unable to double their lead.

As the match entered stoppage time, it appeared that the hosts would cruise to the three points.

However Tomlinson had different plans, curling a fantastic effort into the net with the final kick of the game, stealing two points from Malvern at the final second.

Town will be hoping to bounce back when they travel to Helston Athletic on Saturday (October 26) at 3pm.
