UFC President Dana White has welcomed former Malvern schoolboy Oban Elliot into the UFC after the Welshman won his fight with Kaik Brito in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Elliot, who attended Dyson Perrins Academy in Malvern as a boy, was fighting in Dana White's Contender Series and won his welterweight clash with Brazilian Brito by majority decision 29-28, 29-28, 28-28.

The victory now earns him a deal with one of the biggest global sports brands and at the end of the fight, White said: "I don't know anyone who wants it badder."

Elliot, of Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, has been plying his trade in the Cage Warriors series in recent years and currently holds a 9-2 career record.

After the fight, he said: "I genuinely can't put it into words, I'm a kid who has turned a childhood dream into a reality.

"I wasn't nervous, I think I needed a clip to get me going. The first round was pretty even, he was predictable but hit me hard and woke me up in the second.

"I'd love to be back before the end of the year, there's a big UFC London card with Jon Jones."
