MALVERN has a new world champion to celebrate after Helen Woodman took gold in the World Triathlon Cross Duathlon Championship in Ibiza last weekend.

The Malvern Triathlon Club member, representing Team GB, crossed the line over four minutes ahead of the rest of the field to claim the gold medal and be crowned World Champion. 

The event started with a a 5800m run, a 20.9km bike ride and then a 3km run to finish off. Woodman's time splits were 00:33:15, 01:46:32, 00:16:31, giving her an overall time of 02:38:39. 

She beat fellow Brit Kath Finn to first place, whilst Nicola Dick (Team GB) also completed the event in fifth in the 60-64 age group. 

And as if that was not enough, Woodman then completed the Cross Triathlon Event, where she finished fourth in the standings to cap off a remarkable couple of days for the Malvern athlete. 

Other Malvern triathletes representing Team GB in Ibiza were Sarah Davies, Ruth Johnstone, who finished in fifth place, and Keith Evans.

Closer to home, Georgia Razavi-Hart, in her first event with Malvern Triathlon Club, completed the Stratford-upon-Avon Sprint Triathlon in a time of 1:23:55.
