Malvern Town defender Jay Sauntson is confident his side can kickstart another winning run after a recent drop off in results when they host Calne Town this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Hillsiders remain in the leading pack in the Hellenic League Premier Division but have won just one of their last five in the league.

They sit in fifth place with 31 points from their 15 games so far but do have games in hand on all of those above and are only seven points off Brimscombe and Thrupp at the summit.

But despite the recent slide in results, Sauntson says it has been a positive start to their first campaign at Step 5.

"I think that we’ve got to be delighted with the start that we have made," he said.

"We’ve had a few ups and downs with our results recently, but I’m positive that we can get ourselves on another winning run.

"Going into this season we knew that we had enough about us to more than mix it at this level and I am buzzing that we are showing it and sit in the top five."

Whilst encouraged by how things have gone up to now, Sauntson knows Town can't rest on their laurels.

Malvern host lowly Calne Town this Saturday at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium, looking to get back to winning ways.

"We’re taking things one game at a time," he added.

"Our focus is firmly set on Saturday and the test that we will get from Calne Town, who had a good result against Cribbs last weekend.

"The aim is to get a run of three or four wins in a row together again so that we can close the gap on the league leaders."
