COMMUNTERS are being urged to get into work safely today if they are able to do so.

People who work in flooded areas should consider staying at home but should listen to local radio for the latest travel advice to check out routes they may be able to use.

Emergency workers such as health professionals are urged to make every effort to get to their nearest place of work.

Employers should be contacted to arrange how best to maintain a service for the public.

A spokesperson said: "We want to make sure people remain safe and well and do not put themselves in any unnecessary danger or at risk.

"If people can work from home they should consider doing this, in consultation with their employer.

"We anticipate traffic flow will be very heavy at the start of the working week and we would ask drivers to allow extra time to complete their journeys.There may also be problems with public transport."

The emergency services are urging residents not to call them if the matter is routine and non-urgent.

Householders should also look out for neighbours and try to make sure they are safe and well.

River levels are being monitored and some roads remain closed due to water.

Concern remains about Upton-in-Severn in particular.

The flooding has affected a number of businesses and community facilities so members of the public should ring in advance to check availability before embarking on their journey.

A number of people are still being accommodated in emergency rest centres and additional facilities are being prepared and are on standby.
