SMILES were on faces and ribbons proudly cut during the official re-opening of Edith Walk public toilets in Malvern town centre yesterday (Thursday).

Glasses of bubbly were raised to mark the occasion, and gathered councillors, traders and residents stepped inside to look at the newly-redecorated facilities.

The opening hopefully marks the end of a saga that caused uproar from residents and traders alike, after Malvern Hills District Council decided to close the toilets, along with those in Upton and Tenbury Wells.

Upton's facilities were opened last week, in time for the town's jazz festival.

New district council leader Serena Croad said she was delighted to be opening the facilities once more.

"We wanted to mark the occasion because we think it's really important to everybody in Malvern,"she added.
