MALVERN now has direct links with the brand new cabinet, through Jacqui Smith, Britain's first ever female Home Secretary, who grew up in the town.
She was picked for the pivotal role during Gordon Brown's huge cabinet reshuffle this week.
Ms Smith, a former Dyson Perrins Pupil, became MP for Redditch, Inkberrow, Feckenham and Cookhill in 1997, and was voted Labour chief whip in 2006.
She now lives in Redditch with husband Richard and sons James and Michael.
