Work on Malvern St James' new £4.4m sports hall gets under way on Monday when headteacher Rosalind Hayes officially cuts the first sod at 1.30pm.
The school received permission to build the hall on land between Madresfield Road and Barnards Green Road in March after a lengthy planning process. The design was reduced by four metres in length and almost three in height.
The school wants new sports complex because facilities in the Edinburgh Dome are considered not up to scratch by modern standards.
