WORK to move Malvern’s JobCentre Plus into the town’s library building will begin within the next two weeks.

The layout of the Graham Road building, which is already home to the library, Worcestershire Hub and registration service, will be redesigned to accommodate the move.

Worcestershire County Council says it will bring together more services in one location, making life more convenient for people and save taxpayer money by reducing property related costs.

The work will start fully later this month and continue until April.

JobCentre Plus will move into the lower ground floor, sharing space with The Hub, while the library will occupy the ground floor.

The café will stay on the lower ground floor and registration services will remain on the ground floor.

Residents have been assured there will be no reduction in library or Worcestershire Hub service once the move is complete.

During the reorganisation the library, Hub and registration services will largely operate as normal, although there will be some temporary changes and disruption to library services, particularly for one week in mid-December and again for one week in March.

The Hub will remain fully operational but will temporarily move into the Malvern Room from November 18.

The following week work will begin on reorganising the library and some library furniture and stock will be relocated on the ground floor of the building. Again, the library will remain open.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, the Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for localism and communities, said: “This project will not only benefit visitors to Malvern Library by bringing more services together under one roof but by working together savings for the taxpayer can also be realised.

“Everything will be done to keep any disruption to a minimum.”

Ivor Pumfrey, head of community services at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “This is an innovative approach to customer service and we’re confident that residents will appreciate the convenience of having three key services in one location.”
