PENNY farthings and other antique bicycles will be out in force next moth for the second Elgar Vintage Ride around the Malvern Hills.

The event is being organised by Malvern Cycles in the Link, and will raise money for Woundcare4Heroes and Malvern Rugby Club.

Registration for the event is now open, and Tanya Trotman of Malvern Cycles is hoping as many people as possible will sign up for it.

She said: “It’s an opportunity to raise money for our community and to have a unique day out with family and friends. Dress up in tweed or Victorian attire and if you can ride the oldest bike you own then that will be totally spiffing.”

The ride takes place on Sunday, September 15, at 2pm from the Malvern Hills Hotel at British Camp.

The full 8.8 mile route goes via Jubilee Drive or those who prefer a 4.8 mile ride can meet at Priory Park at 3pm.

Tanya added: “The final leg of our journey will take us from Malvern Theatres to Newland via Barnards Green and Madressfield to our final destination Malvern Rugby Club for sandwiches and refreshments.

“Our first Elgar Vintage Ride enjoyed the support of more than 100 participants and was a great success, raising £870. We look forward to having an even bigger and more successful ride this year.”

There will prizes for the best decorated bike, best vintage outfit and best vintage bike.

Registration fees are adults, £6, the retired, £5, and children £2.

Payment can be in cash or cheques payable to Elgar Vintage Ride.
