WITH regards to recycling in other parts of the country, Paul Latham, who commented on services in London is absolutely right.
Not only is there a free green waste collection in North Somerset, but food waste is also collected weekly.
On moving to Malvern two years ago I checked the local authority website and was disappointed that a free collection of garden waste was deemed unfair on those without gardens, but the website also said food waste can be composted and used to enrich our gardens – rather pointless if you don’t have a garden!
In Bristol and North Somerset all food waste – including meat and fish bones – is stored in a seal-able container and collected.
General waste only needs to be collected fortnightly because there is so little of it and no rotting food either.
Worcestershire has a long way to go before it reaches the recycling targets being met by other local authorities.
