At last, some common sense from Malvern Hills District Council!
The western red cedar allegedly "undermining the stability of the lamp” in Station Gardens has been saved from Malvern Town Council's destruction.
Presumably the tree was not “undermining” the lamp at all, if pruning of a few lower branches is all that is necessary to put things right.
What sort of advice did the town council receive to decide to destroy the tree - in a parkland setting surely throwing the baby out with the bathwater?
The only redeeming feature of this farcical episode is that both councils are not currently proposing to cut down all the trees and turn the area into yet another ‘pay and display’ car park - a missed opportunity to plant another forest of notices, exploit motorists for revenue, and encourage traffic wardens to develop even better public relations with residents, traders and visitors!
