WERE Medieval Christmases the best Christmases ever? In Paul Harding of Discover History's opinion they were, and this was the question he set out to explore at our November meeting. His entertaining talk concentrated on the customs and traditions of the medieval Christmas, and was ably illustrated by lots of artefacts he had brought with him. These ranged from the pagan Yule log through to the pewter utensils of the later Middle Ages. Along the way we briefly visited celebrations down the ages from pagan to our modern times. We also learned the reason why 25th December was chosen for our present day Christmas Day!

During the month, our usual activities have continued. Our gardening club have been busy tidying up the Jubilee Garden, planting fruit bushes, autumn flowering plants and lots of spring flowering bulbs. Our two book clubs have met as usual. Our craft group continue to make sensory sleeves for people suffering with dementia. The lunch Club are looking forward to lunch at The Kettle Sings.

On Remembrance Sunday we took part in the Malvern Wells ceremony and laid a wreath on behalf of our WI at the War Memorial. We also provided teas in the Village Hall, after the ceremony.

Our next meeting is our Christmas Party, on Thursday, December 8 at 7.30pm in the Malvern Wells Village Hall. Do come and join us, we are looking forward to an entertaining, fun filled evening with plenty of delicious food and drink!
