The last 72 hours in parliament has revealed a whole host of new Brexit battles for the Prime Minister, seeing him lose to rebel Tories and opposition MPs who reject the possibility of a no deal Brexit.

On Tuesday evening, the House of Commons voted to take control of negotiations leading to a probable bill requesting a Brexit delay. Should this pass on Wednesday evening, and a no deal Brexit is taken off the table, Mr Johnson has said he will call for a general election in October.

Businesses feel like Westminster is playing an endless game of political chess, while their futures and the health of the UK economy hang in the balance. In the real world, the continuing political turbulence is taking a toll on contracts, investment decisions and on business confidence.

Throughout the ongoing uncertainty and new daily battles, the Chamber is here to support your company with any concerns relating to the latest updates in parliament. It has never been more important to have your say to inform government about your business’ experience in regards to cash flow, recruitment, export and price pressures this quarter.

I would like to invite local firms to take part in our Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) to work with us, the Chamber, to highlight the key areas that are affecting your businesses amidst the latest political noise.

On a local level, your responses will inform the policy strategy of Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce by identifying key business issues for the Chamber to lobby for. You do not have to be a Member of the Chamber to complete the survey, and we welcome responses from all business sectors including education, charity and not-for-profit companies.

On a national level, your input forms a leading indicator that is used by key stakeholders including The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, HM Treasury and the Office for Budget Responsibility and the European Commission.
