A WORCESTERSHIRE man with a good head for heights had the best view in the house for the spectacular Olympic opening and closing ceremonies.

As one of the elite team of lighting engineers charged with ensuring everything ran smoothly in the Olympic Stadium, Tim Probert, from Uptonupon- Severn, spent much of the games precariously positioned some 70 metres up above the action.

Having worked on global tours for the likes of Pink and U2, and spectacular showbiz occasions such as the MTV and Brit Awards, Mr Probert is no stranger to high spectacle.

But even he admitted to being impressed by the sense of occasion and history as he perched on the stadium roof watching the world watching as one during Danny Boyle’s spectacular opening ceremony.

“It all came together so well on the night, and it was a view that money cannot buy really, perched there on the roof with the fireworks going off all around me,” he said.

Mr Probert first got into lighting when he helped his uncle Rowan Thomas put on displays for the Upton Water Festival.

He cut his teeth helping with shows by amateur theatre troupe the Pepperpot Players before studying lighting at the Central School of Speech and Drama, in London.
