A REAL Olympic torch helped to give a truly authentic feel to a “mini Olympic Games” held at an Upton care home.

Residents of Beechwood, Holly Green, near Uptonupon- Severn, were joined by their families and visitors for the fun event, which included disciplines such as flight arrows and target bowls.

The torch came courtesy of 90-year-old resident Joan Rudd, whose son Phillip carried the flame through Dartmouth in May and who kindly agreed to donate both his torch and official tracksuit for the occasion.

Denise Clark, manager of the Sanctuary Care home, said the event was a big success.

“There has been such a huge build up to the London 2012 Olympics and we were so excited and honoured to be given the opportunity to have one of the official Olympic torches at our event,” she said.
