I REFER to the Worcestershire County Council proposal to do away with car parking space to accommodate a bus stop by the post office in Court Road, Barnards Green, which I understand is being promoted by Councillor Steve Brown.

The Malvern Gazette Comment is absolutely right in condemning this.

We have used Barnards Green shopping area for more than 40 years and have seen a lot of changes in that time, so I think we can make a few points about how things work in this busy commercial area: 􀁥 It seems like a kneejerk reaction to condemn the existing layout on the strength of a few complaints.

  • If there is a problem at all, it is having buses stopping outside the Post Office when adequate space, with shelter for passengers, is already provided just over the road.
  • There is already too much ‘sterilized’ space provided for taxis in Barnards Green.
  • There are numerous ‘fast food’ outlets in this particular area. Three Chinese take-aways, two fish and chips, etc.

This means parking close is essential if you don’t want cold food by the time you get home.

To lose these precious parking spaces would be another thoughtless attack on traders and a big inconvenience to shoppers.
