THE man behind plans to
replace Barnards Green
parking places with a bus
stop says he will talk to
traders after he gets back to
the UK this weekend.
As reported last week,
county councillor Steve
Brown proposed seven
parking spaces outside the
post office in Court Road
could be replaced with a
bus stop. But shopkeepers
received the suggestion
with anger, saying that the
last thing they needed in
the current economic circumstances
was a reduction
in parking places.
This week he said: “Safety
concerns and commercial
issues can both be
addressed without any
great conflict. I have been
in contact with local
traders and will look at
options with them when I
come back to the UK next
week.
“I have had no confirmation
yet but it looks like the
bus stop may be relocated
on the roundabout, this
would reduce the loss of
spaces to three. Other
options may be able to
account for this loss.
“The current proposal is
advertised in order to get
the views of all parties concerned.
The views of local
traders, taxis, the police,
bus companies and the
councils need to be
assessed before any action
is taken.” Post office owner
David Stephens said: “The
support we’ve had from the
public has been overwhelmingly
positive.
“It’s good that Coun
Brown seems amenable, and
I look forward to discussions
with him. I’d urge anyone
who opposes this to make
their feelings known.”
