YOUNGSTERS have been banging the drum for stronger links with Asian culture.

Before breaking up for the summer, pupils at The Chase School, Malvern, held a Multicultural Day, focusing on the colourful and vibrant culture of the Indian subcontinent.

Year Seven pupils enjoyed several workshops led by a group of experts on Bollywood and bhangra dancing, mendhi hand painting and dhol drumming.

They also got to make traditional Asian food and textiles and enacted a Hindu wedding ceremony.

Mrs Jodie Smith, who organised the day's activities, said: “It is important for Chase students to recognise that Malvern is not as multicultural as some parts of the Midlands or the UK.

“It is our responsibility as a school to open children’s eyes to this diversity by exploring other cultures in an exciting and positive manner. Only then can we fully prepare them for life in an ethnically diverse world.”
