OPPONENTS of domestic abuse from Worcestershire took part in a national relay race which included a run to the top of the Malvern Hills.

The National White Ribbon Relay is aimed at raising awareness of the link between violence against women and girls and major sporting events, such as the Olympics.

Malvern was among the places it visited, and local volunteers from organisations such as West Mercia Women’s Aid helped relay the baton to the summit of the Worcestershire Beacon.

Ros Walker, coordinator of the Worcestershire Forum Against Domestic Abuse, said: “We chose the Beacon to be the focal point of the county’s relay due to its prominence. We hope it sends out a symbolic message to sufferers that they will be seen and heard.”
