WHEN we met on the morning of Tuesday, April 10, members of Malvern Green WI celebrated their 20th WI birthday with a slice of delicious cake made by treasurer Pat Deacon for the occasion. Later in the month members will be enjoying a birthday lunch at the home of Veronica Burslem. Ronnie has offered to cook a meal for everyone and members hope to enjoy her garden, weather permitting.

Next week the Strollers are bus riding to St Peters Garden Centre for lunch and the Book Corner will meet again at Malvern Library on Tuesday to discuss authors and literature they enjoy.

Names were taken of those who want to attend the Malvern Hills Group of WIs Jubilee Celebration at Lansdowne Church at 2.30pm on Thursday, May 17. Several members are planning the Jubilee hats they will wear but these artistic ladies are not revealing their creations until the day.

The speaker for the morning was Roger Sutton of Malvern Civic Society. Most members knew very little about this society and were surprised to learn that there are about 700 civic societies all over the country and they are linked to Civic Voice in London.

Malvern has 440 members who concern themselves with the history and heritage of the town, and in keeping the character and ambience of the beautiful area they live in.

The society doesn’t have any power but represents the community. They produce publications on different aspects of Malvern and arrange talks, walks and visits to places of interest.

Once a year there is Civic Week, organised by Civic Voice, with numerous events taking place all over the town.

Mr Sutton gave such an interesting and informative insight into the Civic Society in Malvern that several members expressed an interest in joining.

Next month’s speaker will be Mrs M Carter from Upton Gardeners’ Club who will be talking on Upton in Bloom. For more information please telephone Nina Shaw on 01684 573318.
