MEMBERS of a local golf club hit the fairways for a good cause and raised almost £1,700 for Diabetes UK.

Dave Randle and Cynthia Holmes, club captain and ladies captain at Bransford Golf Club, decided to support the charity during their year in office and they were delighted to hand over a cheque for £1,691 as a result of fund-raising over the last 12 months.

The money was raised through various events and competitions and Mr Randle and his family and friends also took part in a sponsored walk over the Malvern Hills, which helped raise a further £574.

“I would like to thank everyone at the club who supported this charity throughout the past year,” said Mr Randle.

“As a Type One diabetic I understand how important it is that continued research is carried out in an effort to find a cure for the disease.”

Joanna Oldfield, fund-raising manager for Diabetes UK, said: “We were delighted to be chosen as the charity for the year and would like to thank David, with the support of his fellow members, for raising such a terrific sum.”

The next fund-raising event at the Bransford club is on Monday, May 7. Members will be taking part in a Pink Ball charity competition organised by the ladies section in support of Breast Cancer UK.
