OTHER readers may have noticed the recent development activity on the road between the Three Counties Show Ground and Hanley Swan, not least because the temporary 10mph speed restriction seems to have been abandoned by the contractors on site.

Maybe it should be retained as a permanent restriction?

I do wonder what the motivation and business case was for this expenditure of public money. To my uninformed eye it has turned a pleasant rural road into an urban canyon be-spoiled by a high kerb on a narrow road making it more dangerous for cyclists and emergency vehicles to negotiate for no apparent benefit and presumably at considerable cost. Malvern does seem to have become the target for such ‘improvements’, which on the contrary detract from road safety.

For example the narrowing of the junction between Guarlford Road and Poolbrook road by Hastings Pool which is now nearly impossible for long heavy vehicles to negotiate without encroaching into the other carriageway.

Recalling how long it took to get traffic controls at the notorious junction near to the showground in spite of the public campaigns over the years there is still significant room for improvement in public consultation in local highway development.
