READING the report in the Gazette on April 13 (‘We need to put all our efforts into town library), I was pleased to read that out Mayor Andrea Morgan and our county councillor Bob Bullock have put their weight behind keeping the library where it is and fighting to keep it.
When I read that an Upton councillor had proposed moving the library to the Memorial Hall I just could not believe it.
Some years ago when the library in Old Street was sold and the Court House (where it is now) was transformed to a new library, the county council went to the town and asked for people to donate books so that it could be stocked.
No one could find out where the cash from the old property went and the parish councillors and indeed the county councillors all worked together to make sure that Upton had a good facility, one to be proud of.
Then about four years ago the building was revamped at a very great cost, and now houses a very good assortment of books, DVDs and offers the use of the computers.
It also houses the MHDC office which is an asset to the town, with car parking.
It is staffed by very friendly people No sir, we don’t want to lose this building, we want to keep it and work together to make sure it safe for future generations Do not give up or find other places to house it, let’s leave well alone and use what we have.
