MALVERN Hills Conservators have produced a “nearly polite”

notice in a bid to tackle the ongoing problem of dog mess on the hills and commons.

Jenny Grantham, deputy conservation officer, explained the notice had been produced in response to issues of dog owners not cleaning up after their pets and, increasingly, bagging waste up but then failing to bin it properly.

She said: “Dog mess is an unpleasant nuisance on Malvern Hills Conservators’ land and it actually represents a health hazard for people and animals, as dog excrement carries bacteria that can cause blindness in children and stillbirths in sheep.”

The new notice, which it is hoped will encourage people to change their habits, states: “We appreciate you clearing up after your dogs.

However we have noticed a lot of used bags hanging in the briars, in the trees and thrown down the banks.

“You would be amazed at the places we find these brightly coloured bags of excrement. Please if you’re good enough to bag it, bin it.”
