MALVERN Town could not make the most of their possession in a 2-0 home defeat to Goodrich in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

The Langland Stadium clash was delayed by 15 minutes as the air ambulance landed just behind the goal to collect a young boy who was involved in a car accident near the ground.

Without suspended forwards Dave Reynolds and Oliver Endacott, Malvern dominated the fixture without threatening the goal.

Goodrich never really got into the game and a goalless draw seemed to be the likely outcome.

Malvern had their best opportunity in the 70th minute when a freekick was crossed to Lee Hooper in the box but his volley went wide.

However, controversial decisions from the officials changed the game completely.

In the 75th minute, John Pykett and Goodrich’s Jack Johnson ran into Malvern’s box and the latter fell down.

The assistant signalled for a penalty and, although the referee was in a better place to see the incident, he hesitated and then blew for the spot-kick which was buried by substitute Sean Pugh.

Within a minute of the restart, Chris Allen swivelled to kick the ball away when Stanley Mugisha fouled him.

Mugisha, allowed to play on, rounded keeper Ian Hill and put the ball away with the Malvern players and management expecting a whistle for the foul.

In the 84th minute, matters got even worse when Chris Allen won the ball on the halfway line with a sliding tackle but the referee blew for a foul and then sent off the Malvern Town player.

This led to a fraying of tempers on both sides and Goodrich defender John Clapp was red carded for his part in the incident.

In injury-time, Hooper’s freekick was saved by the legs of the visitors’ goalkeeper Jack Hayward.
