DOLLY Mixtures was the title of the talk given by Marie Roper at the March 6 meeting.
Marie studied fashion and embroidery, then tutored patchwork and quilting for many years prior to her retirement.
A lifelong doll-lover Marie has now gone into felt and doll making.
Members were able to view an astonishing range of beautiful original dolls including goth, folk myth, native American, poetic and nature-inspired creations. These incorporated many techniques such as hand-made felt, knitting, lace, paper, beads, leather, hand and machine embroidery. The dolls were personalised by tiny books, bags, musical instruments, birds and jewellery.
The following day some members enjoyed a tutored workshop with Marie making sugar plum dolls with individually sculpted, characterful faces.
The next meeting, a talk by Euryl Stevens entitled Lively Humorous Figures, is on April 3 at Perdiswell Young Peoples’ Leisure Club.
Visitors and new members are welcome.
