A MAJOR Malvern charity event will clash with another massive county charity fundraiser this year.

The Acorns Triple Run, which takes place at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, and Cancer Research UK’s 5k Race for Life in Worcester are both due to tbe held on Sunday, June 24.

The Acorns Triple Run is made up of three separate races and is designed to appeal to people of all ages, genders and abilities.

The three races are the Malvern half marathon, the 5k fun run and the 1k fun run, which is based on a wheelchair-friendly course and is designed to cater for children and adults with special needs.

A total of 1,186 people took part in the sixth Acorns Triple Run on May 29 last year to help raise £35,000 for the Worcester-based hospice A record-breaking 114 people took part in the Chicken Run while 370 ran the Spring Run and 702 completed the half-marathon – including 46 members of the US Navy, who had travelled from the south coast to take part.

Last year Pitchcroft racecourse was a sea of pink as 3,827 women and girls gathered there for the 5km Race for Life event on June 12 and raised £194,468 for Cancer Research UK.

This year, organisers want 4,000 women and girls to put their best foot forward and help raise £199,520 for vital research. Kerrie Davies, events manager at Acorns, said: “The summer is always busy with events and will be even more so this year with the Olympics and Golden Jubilee.

“It’s unfortunate but unavoidable that the Triple Run is on the same day as another charity event in Worcester.

“We are working harder than ever to promote the event and are hoping that we will receive the same great support that we have experienced over the last six years and raise the funds so vitally needed to provide care and support to local life limited and life threatened children.”

A spokeswoman for Race for Life declined to comment.
