COUNCIL taxpayers’ cash to pay for a disabled access bridge at a popular village leisure spot is being rolled over after it went unspent this year.

Kemspey Parish Council agreed to put £1,000 from this year’s budget into the 2012/13 kitty.

The cash is to pay for an upgrade to the bridge spanning Hatfield Brook at an area known locally as The Rocky.

Councillor Mike Stevens, who is in charge of the committee making the changes, said the council had budgeted for the work but had run out of time to carry it out.

“We did get quotes for the work but we had to change the specification,”

he said. “As we’re reaching the financial year end it seems unlikely we’ll complete that work so I propose we roll it over.”

He revealed that £3,000 had remained unspent for the budget on The Rocky, because much of the current work to improve the waterside area had involved clearing vegetation and general tidying up rather capital works.

Councillor David Harrison proposed the full unspent amount be rolled over to cover a potentially higher cost for the bridge, however he was a lone voice.

Parish councillors, with the exception of coun Harrison, agreed to rollover the cash.

Coun Harrison voted against the measure, saying: “I don’t think it’s enough money to pay for the bridge.”
