100 YEARS AGO.

Established in 1852, the well-known firm of Messrs. Kendall and Co., drapers, Beauchamp House, Church Street, celebrate this year their diamond jubilee. The event is to some degree being marked by the reconstruction and remodelling of their premises, in order to meet present-day requirements. The firm is too well-known to need introduction to the Malvern public, but we may recall the fact that it has grown with the growth of Malvern itself and for the long period of sixty years has been a familiar landmark in connection with the town.

50 YEARS AGO.

Arrangements are now complete for the visit of HRH the Duchess of Gloucester to her old school. St James's, Malvern, next Thursday. She will travel to Pershore by air and will be met by the Lord Lieutenant of the County. Her car is expected to pass through Great Malvern just before noon. After opening the new Anstruther Hall, she will cross by foot the West Malvern road about 12.20, en route to Baird House. She will take luncheon with the school council, staff and girls, and later attend a play.

25 YEARS AGO.

Despite high unemployment, Malvern has missed an opportunity to help with its jobless workforce by setting up a Jobclub with funding from the Manpower Services Commission. Local campaigners for the jobless said they were 'horrified' and 'appalled' by the news.

Parishioners at Colwall's St James the Great Church are soon hoping to step back in history, and into the old pub, after morning service. Plans have been submitted to reinstate the cottages next to the church as they were originally built, when it was a Church Ale House.
