"UNBELIEVABLE State Of Affairs" At Cradley was one of the headlines in the Malvern Gazette 50 years ago.

"A request by Cradley Parish council to Herefordshire Water Board for a temporary water supply in the area is to be looked into by the board.

"The board's engineer, Mr W H Austin, comments, 'I do not know whether a temporary water supply in the area will materialise or not.'

"The council made the request to the board after a lengthy discussion on water problems in the village.

"Mrs M Congdon told the meeting that some people, who travelled daily to Worcester, brought water back for their use. She said this state of affairs seemed unbelievable in this day and age.

"In view of the fact that a water rate was charged for the parish, members decided to request the board for a temporary water supply until a permanent water scheme for the area was in operation."
