MALVERN Hills Community Safety Partnership has pledged its support to an international event that aims to end violence against women. Entitled The 16 Days of Action, the campaign will be launched globally on Thursday, November 25 and will run until Friday, December 10.

Plans are well underway to bring the campaign into the forefront of people’s minds. Throughout the 16 days there will be a number of activities taking place, including an inspirational event at the home of the Worcester Warriors which will address domestic and sexual violence prevention and the promotion of healthy manhood; representatives from Malvern Hills Community Safety Partnership will attend the event which is being led by one of America’s leading lights in the social justice arena. Tony Porter, the visionary and co-founder of an organisation called A Call to Men will be the keynote speaker at this first ever UK Call to Men conference on Friday, November 25.

The 16 Days of Action was originally launched in Canada in 1991; the dates are symbolic in that 25 November 25 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and December 10 is International Human Rights Day. It’s an important event as it helps to highlight what can be done to tackle violence against women at a local level, supported by events and activities throughout the world.

Since The 16 Days campaign began in 1991, more than 2,000 organisations in over 156 countries have taken part in a bid to tackle domestic abuse and violence against women.

Pledge your support and together we can help open up the channels of communication regarding what is so often a hidden issue.
