OUR Harvest Project can only be described as a great success! Harvest produce (non-perishable tinned and packaged food) was given by many churches and organisations from across the town. It was delivered to St Mary’s and added to our own gifts. Tuesday, October 11 was distribution day. The aim was to fill 15 hampers, but such was folk’s generosity that 29 hampers were filled, almost double the target. It was a hard morning and afternoon of work for the stalwart St Mary’s helpers and distributors. Particular thanks go to all those volunteers, and our thanks to the churches and groups that made it possible for us to support so many needy families. And our thanks go also to Clare for creating this scheme and encouraging us all.

The gospel reading for October 9 was the Parable of the Wedding Banquet. As this was our Family Service we acted out the Banquet complete with reluctant guests. One guest (Callum) arrived at the Banquet improperly dressed and was cast out, bound hand and feet. We need to respond in a proper manner to God’s invitations.

The marriage theme continued on Sunday, October 16, when our service included a renewal of marriage vows. Ben and Becky Taylor renewed their vows after 13 years of marriage. They were supported by their children, Georgia, Callum and Harry and many friends and family. We wish the family every blessing.

Our communion service on Sunday, October 23 included a double baptism of Ruth Diggines and her daughter Phoebe. We pray for them both and welcome them into the fellowship of the church.
