MEMBERS and a visitor were welcomed to the February meeting. The ladies were soon signing up to attend Hanley Castle WI’s 90th Birthday Party later in the month and the Severn Group Meeting in March. Coral Male agreed to be the delegate at the Federation’s Annual Council Meeting at Malvern. Several new members agreed to embroider their initials for the WI cloth; a tradition started several years ago. Marguerite Luck reported on a very enjoyable charity walk and lunch at Blackmore Gardens in January.
The speaker for the evening was Bryan Neville-Lee. Under the title of Poetry Pleases he gave excellent readings from the works a number of poets, including A A Milne, Rupert Brooke, Rudyard Kipling, Wordsworth and Leigh Hunt. Each time he told members something about the poet’s life. Mr Neville-Lee obviously has a great love of poetry, and in answer to a request, read us two of his own poems. Poetry is something we rarely seem to read for ourselves, but many do enjoy listening to it being read aloud.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 8 at 7.30pm in the village hall when Dr Webster will give Memories of a Bush Doctor. Visitors will be welcome. For more details of activities please contact Sue Strang on 01684 592408.
