THE president welcomed members back to the village hall as the frozen pipe problem had been solved. Barbara read the notices and Jenny was at top table deputising as the treasurer.

Plans are all in place for the talk by Mr Pumphrey on April 16 followed by fish and chip lunch.

A gift was presented to Pat a member who after 33 years is moving on to pastures new, good luck.

A members night committee was nominated and a meeting was arranged.

The speaker for the night was introduced, John Clews from the RSPB. John proceeded to entertain members with the help of a slide show to introduce members to the world of birds. How the society was formed by a group of women who wanted to stop the killing of rare birds for their plumage and was formed in 1889. The society has over one million members at present. He advised on how to entice more birds into the garden and on how to keep the birds healthy. He told members lots of facts about how some birds are in decline and the worse enemy to them is the cat. How farmers are more aware now on how to encourage birds and how volunteers are used to scatter seed due to the change in crop planting. Most members could identify most of the birds shown and John was jealous of how many different birds were seen in members garden. At the end of the talk the members were served tea and biscuits and wished a good evening.

Next meeting will be on Thursday, March 3 at 7.30pm in village hall.
