A HEADLINE in the Gazette 50 years ago would certainly be deemed inflammatory today: St Anne's Well should be demolished - says Conservator.
The board was considering its budget for the coming year when a member, Mr W S Brettell, said that in his opinion, he would not be prepared a penny spent on the landmark. He thought the whole place should be demolished.
"It is not fit for habitation and I think it should be a sheer waste of good money to repair it," he told his colleagues. "It should be demolished and consideration given to the erection of a new building with more facilities available for catering to the public."
