AS a frequent visitor to the Malverns, I for one supported the Conservators' effort to replace the tenant at St Anne's Cafe.
This was nothing to do with the tenant, who I have never met, only to do with the opening hours.
So often when I have come off the Hills at four or five o'clock, in need of a cup of tea, it has been closed. I would expect the cafe to be open long into the evening.
And when it is open it is uglier than it could be with cars parked on the side.
I think the Conservators had in mind something different and perhaps better than what is there.
I am sure they didn't want to give notice, never a pleasant thing to do, but felt that it was the sort of difficult decision people expect ruling bodies to take on their behalf, in order to protect the resource for the many.
It is a pity they have failed because I fear they will now be unwilling to take difficult decisions again.
