AN eyewitness has described the moment the earth shook during an explosion at a popular Christmas tree farm.

One man was taken to hospital following the incident at Leigh Sinton this morning after the LPG tank in a car he was working on exploded, starting a fire.

The man suffered burns to his hands and face, but his injuries are not serious.

West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Leigh Sinton Road, near Malvern.

Yolande Ball, an employee on the site, said: “It was horrible. It sounded like a plane had come down.

“Everything just shook, it was so surreal.

“The place had just started to get really busy and it happened so quickly.

“One man was taken to hospital but it could have been catastrophic. Thank God no one was seriously hurt.”

Another eyewitness Steve Benson, who owns a unit on the site, watched the events unfold.

He said: “I was inside the coach working and all of a sudden there was an almighty explosion.

“I saw the walls blow out of the building and debris falling out of the sky.

“There was one man working in that unit - I panicked and ran over and shouted for him but he’d managed to go out the back.”

A cordon of 200m was initially set up around the scene, due to a number of other gas canisters which are kept in the unit, but this was later reduced after it was confirmed the area was safe.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Crews were called to reports of an incident involving an LPG tank exploding in a car.

“On arrival at the scene crews found a car and a building on fire.

“One man was treated for burns to his hands and face and he was out of the car on crews arrival.

“The man was conveyed by ambulance to hospital for treatment and further assessment.”
