"DISTRICT councillors are to be asked in the new year to support plans for a £3½ million leisure centre on the site of the Priory Park open-air swimming pool," reported the Gazette 25 year ago.
"Consultants appointed by the local council's leisure services working party to carry out a feasibility study on possible development have concluded that keeping the existing pool, either in its present form or covered over, is not a viable alternative to rebuilding on the site.
"Anything less than a full combined leisure centre will not only be a regretfully wasted opportunity for the Malvern Hills district, but will also result in inferior facilities."
The council was being recommended to make a planning application for the leisure centre "to serve not only the resident population but also the tourist and conference market in the area".
