LAST Thursday’s evening walk led by David Allen proved popular with adults and dogs alike! Seventeen members of Powick Ramblers plus dogs Tilly, Charlie, Petey, Digby, Monty and Clive, left the Old Hills car park to cross the Upton Road and enter the wooded area and then alongside a field of wheat looking almost golden in the evening sun as a skylark sang overhead. The path led down to the hamlet of Clevelode and down to the river Severn and the newly constructed fishing platform. The route then turned north through Chapelhill Rough and across the pasture where many sheep grazed, past Pixham Farm on the left and Pixham Ferry on the right. The path then led up an incline towards Severn Heights Nursing Home (St Cloud on the map), and through a field where a dozen horses of various colours showed great interest. There were views of Bredon Hill across the Severn valley and views of the Malvern Hills. The walkers entered the woodland again after negotiating a very rickety stile and followed the grass tracks to the road and back to the car park. The walk took two hours in the cool of the evening and David was thanked for leading it.

Next Thursday, July 22, a walk will take place at 10am from The Plume of Feathers led by Jim and Meg Allsopp (01905 830746). The four mile walk will include Castlemorton and Gullet Quarry.

The Maize Maze at Broadfields Farm will be open again this year from Saturday, July 24.

Last Sunday the morning service at St Peter’s church included the baptism of baby Eden Paisley Banner and baby Annabel Sophia Weaver both from Byrons Wood, Hospital Lane. Readings were by Jacky Bolton and Jo Walker, prayers led by Terry Maple and Sally Lindsey played the organ. Reverend Sue Irwin conducted the service.
