A TEAM of district nurses from Malvern are among the almost 400 women already signed-up to take part in this October’s Malverns by Moonlight charity walk.

The event, supported by the Malvern Gazette and Ledbury Reporter, will see participants starting at 8pm and trekking over the hills to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Research.

Karol Carry, Susan Walsh and Lin Shepherd, from Malvern, as well as Mel Hughes, from St Johns, in Worcester, are all keen walkers and were drawn to the fund-raiser through their working relationship with local Macmillan nurse Beryl Taylor.

Mrs Carry said: “We use Macmillan nurses a lot for our palliative care. They have a lot of impact on patients. All of us walk for leisure so we thought why not raise money as well?

“We thought it might be better as a team than doing it individually. Hopefully past and present patients might see us and donate. Anything to help something like this.”

The team of four hope to raise as much money as they can on October 3 and are inviting sponsors to drop into New Court Surgery, in Prospect View, Pickersleigh Road, to donate.

Walkers are still being invited to sign-up online for the event by visiting macmillan.org.uk/malvernsbymoonlight. The cut-off for online registrations is today (Friday, September 18) at 5pm.

Registrations can then still be made by phone, on 01527 579575, or by post up until Friday, September 25 at 5pm.

Those not taking part who still want to contribute can visit the event website.
